There is space for you between the best
I created this mantra back in 2022.
Last year, my happiness of London life slowly crumbled. I was very overwhelmed by the reality of many creatives in London: small pay or ‘do it for the exposure' projects, high bills, busy schedules, uncomfortable shared houses and a general feeling of loosing oneself. I didn’t understand where I stand, where I end and begin, what I value and who I want to become.
I decided to step back from majority of roles and get back to one thing I knew helps me - dancing. I moved to Sweden and spent time at Åsa (street dance school in the middle of nowhere, about which I will talk more very soon), and without many distractions I was made to face myself and my fears. Here I discovered the root of my unhappiness, the all ruling belief that I need to instantly succeed. The funny thing is, I didn’t even know what success means to me at this point, I was just doing things that were socially accepted and celebrated - getting jobs, leading projects, being busy and occupied, hoping that one day this ‘rat wheel’ type of lifestyle will bring me contentment. Worrying about achieving something is really stupid when you don’t know what you are trying to achieve, ain’t I right.
Instant success, *in my opinion* is a bullshit concept we were made to believe in this quick culture. I swear that no meaningful or impactful thing in my life was easy to create or reach, and it took time. Quite a long time of intentional and consistent decision making towards reaching a specific goal. Today we just don’t see a lot of that process part, which is challenging and requires some form of sacrifice - painful or not.
There is space for us between the best, and it will take time for us to get there, but there definitely is space. Whatever or wherever you are trying to reach, on your way, celebrate others getting there, celebrate your steps moving towards it and take your sweet time. On your way you will also have to become really good at believing that you will get there and that you are deserving of getting there.
